Event RISO Thursdays! Induction for Open Access Sessions 28 May 2026 – 18 June 2026, Selected Thursdays, 11am–1pm Back RISO Zine page, courtesy Steve RussellRISO Zine pageRISO Zine page, courtesy Steve Russell Location Community Studio Book Here From 28 May, we’ll be opening up our Community Studio and RISO printer on Thursday afternoons. Come along and work on your own projects! RISO printing is a cross between screen-printing and photocopying, allowing you to produce duplicated images that still feel like unique prints. Its distinctive palette of colours are part of what create the RISO aesthetic, and these can also be combined to make many more tones. Printing is low-cost and often considered more environmentally friendly than other printing methods, with the rice and soy based inks being made from leftover waste produced from these industries. Come along and try out RISO printing at our open access sessions on Thursdays or at one of our forthcoming workshops! Unless you are very experienced with using a RISO, we recommend you undertake our induction; this will introduce you to our machine and give you a chance to learn collage printing while making two colour zine. Inductions will be available throughout the month. Book your place here! Everyone will be required to have a health and safety introduction to the building and sign our user agreement on their first visit or at their induction. About our RISO: Our machine is a RISO MZ1070, 2 drum colour machine, with 5 colour drums available in Black, Red, Green, Teal, and Orange. Open Access sessions will always be supervised by a technician, who is available to provide technical support. If you would like to learn how to use RISO or develop your knowledge of the process there will soon be a programme of workshops throughout the year including: Beginners, Next Steps RISO Workshop: Collaged images with multiple colours Develop your RISO practice Workshop: Designing and printing basic 2 colour digital images (from a laptop) Advanced RISO Workshop: Multiple colours and complex images workshop Book Here
