Event Drawing making – Making drawing 18 January 2014 – 26 January 2014 Back Artist Charles Avery working in his studio, 2007 Location Gallery Images charles_avery_studio_copy-1.jpg A series of talks, in-conversations, discussions and workshops conceived of and devised by artist, writer and educator, Jack Southern. A display of artworks by some of the invited artists offers points of reference and punctuation to the Drawing making: Making drawing project. Over a two-week period, this project will progress research and discourse originally developed through working on Drawing Projects, An Exploration of the Language of Drawing (Black Dog publishing), which Jack co-wrote with Mick Maslen. Taking momentum from this best-selling publication, the medium of drawing will be questioned, tested and examined, both practically and conceptually within a dynamic and exploratory framework. Through this diverse structure of both making drawings through practical workshops, and reflecting on the inherent creative and cognitive process through conversation, a number of thematic links will emerge and be explored. Contributing Artists include Dryden Goodwin, Cornelia Parker, Charles Avery, Kate Atkin, Franziska Furter, Claude Heath, Tim Knowles, Martin Wilner and Gemma Anderson, whose working practices, ideas and thinking processes will form a vital anchor to the evolving dialogue. Ongoing exchange, and creative connections made will offer a vehicle for insight and understanding.
