Standard Deviation by Susan Morris

Artist Susan Morris presents her paper Standard Deviation as part of the symposium Standard Deviation: Time and The Body, 30 May 2015 at Drawing Room. Conceived and led by Susan Morris, this half-day symposium looked at ways in which artists have used automated processes of drawing to explore time, the body, and the machinic gesture or trace.

Morris's paper is concerned with some of the technical aspects of data collection and its conversion into tapestries. She addresses processes of making, as well as questions about digital technology as a medium, and its (paradoxical) relation to the indexical mark.
