Tannery Arts is a small, independent charity concerned with supporting the professional development of emerging and established artists through the provision of affordable studios, promoting their practice through opportunities to exhibit work, develop projects, generate partnerships with local authorities, private property owners and social housing organisations as well as engage in learning activities.

The Jerwood/Photoworks Awards are the leading biennial commission open to all UK-based artists who use photography and are within the first ten years of their career. Established in 2014, the Awards offer a significant framework of critical and practical support that encourages artists to explore, develop and create a new body of work over a 12-month period, with a UK touring exhibition in the following year. This publication introduces the recipients of the fifth edition of the Awards, and their two solo exhibitions: 空席 (Kūseki) by Sayuri Ichida and TRA by Roman Manfredi. With essays by curator Cindy Sissokho and photographic artist Alys Tomlinson, the publication offers insight into the artists’ processes and the urgencies leading them to create these expanded photographic works.
