Internship opportunity: Project Assistant on Drawing Biennial 2013


This position offers the successful candidate a unique opportunity to have a focused internship working toward Drawing Biennial 2013

Internship dates: from start February – end May inclusive

Deadline: Tues 22nd January 2013 (by 10am)

Drawing Biennial 2013 is an exhibition of works on paper made by approximately 200 invited artists. It is Drawing Room’s largest exhibition and an important exhibition in the art world calendar.  Sale of the works through an on-line auction raises essential income for drawing room. The biennial culminates in a silent auction event on the last evening of the exhibition, Wednesday 15 May.

This position offers the successful candidate a unique opportunity to have a focused internship working toward Drawing Biennial 2013 and take an important role in:

  • the exhibition planning and presentation of Drawing Biennial 2013
  • communications and the co-ordination of copy, images and research
  • designing and co-ordinating events to promote the exhibition

Working within the small team at Drawing Room means you will acquire a wide range of project skills from communications to exhibition planning, inc. working with artists, artworks & development/ fundraising experience.


  • Handling donated artworks including data input of artists information, logging donated art works, scanning all art works received, collating information about each art work.
  • Working with the Communications Manager and Directors to produce written explanations and biographies of selected artists’ practice.
  • Liaising with contributing artists, including to collate artist research, source material & information
  • Supporting the Communications Manager with publicity and marketing, including distribution of printed publicity material, press, events, social media and editing of Drawing Room website ( a new website is due to be launched in February).
  • Front of house – working with invigilators, meeting and greeting visitors, explaining bidding process etc
  • Assisting with the organisation of the closing auction event on the evening of Wednesday 15 May including: invitations, event planning, co-ordinating the team of volunteers etc.

You must be:

  • Available to commit to 2 days per week, with additional flexibility to attend events on occasional Saturdays and evenings
  • Interested in Contemporary Art
  • PC literate with experience of Photoshop and Excel
  • Have exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience within retail and/or hospitality will also be greatly valued


We are able to cover expenses for travel within London. There is potential for additional paid work on Saturdays.
