Event Writing on Art Today 10 October 2014 Back Writing_on_Art_BW.jpg Location Gallery Images Writing_on_Art_BW-3.jpg This seminar event addresses the question: how can we write about art today? It looks at opportunities and challenges faced by writers, editors and curators of contemporary art. Speakers will include Patricia Bickers, Omar Kholeif, Sally O’Reilly and Gilda Williams. Each speaker will provide a unique perspective on the highs and lows of reporting and reflecting on contemporary art. We will also discuss ethical concerns about best practice, and the challenges of writing and editing in a highly commercialised art scene. Patricia Bickers is Editor of Art Monthly, an art historian and critic. Omar Kholeif is Curator at Whitechapel Gallery, Senior Visiting Curator, Cornerhouse, and Senior Editor Ibraaz. Sally O’Reilly is a writer who has contributed to a number of art and culture magazines and journals. Gilda Williams is an art critic, a London correspondent for Artforum, lecturer at Goldsmiths and author of the recently published How to Write about Contemporary Art (Thames&Hudson). Writing on Art Today is chaired by Colin Perry (freelance art critic and editor). Colin is also leading a series of professional development workshops throughout October titled Writing on Art.
