To celebrate Black History Month, we welcome all teachers and educators to assemble for a hands-on workshop and discussion exploring migration and black perspectives through drawing, led by artist-illustrator Olivia Twist.
Olivia documents social history and overlooked narratives through bold and graphic language. We will use the act of drawing and Marc Bauer’s current exhibition which chronicles migration throughout time, as a jumping off point to share ideas about transferring these topics to the classroom.
This session kicks-off the new Teachers Assembly series hosted by Drawing Room – gathering teachers, artists and educators to break down the distinctions between artist and teacher, studio and classroom. As a forum of exchange, the thematic sessions will explore how expanded, experimental and collaborative drawing can be used as creative pedagogy in schools.
