Mick Peter in Conversation

Mick PeterPyramid Selling (detail), Tramway, Glasgow, 2015

Location

Gallery

The artist Mick Peter will use his ambitious installation Pyramid Selling as the site of his conversation with Tom Morton (writer, curator and lecturer). Infectiously enthusiastic about commercial illustrations and avant-garde literature of the 1960s and 70s, Peter will talk about his idiosyncratic way of breathing new life into this imagery to make it relevant today.  The conversation will reveal the artistic processes Peter has developed through trial and error, which begins with the production of drawings, a selection of which are enlarged to expose the animated nature of their lines, and transformed into three dimensional objects through a form of inverted casting. Tom Morton selected Peter for the British Art Show 7 in 2010, and has maintained a dialogue with him since this time.

Tom Morton is a writer, curator, lecturer in modern and contemporary art at Christies and is Contributing Editor of frieze magazine. His recent exhibitions include Äppärät, BallroomMarfa, Texas, 2015/16; Panda Sex, State of Concept, Athens, 2014; ‘British British Polish Polish: Art from Europe’s Edges in the Long ‘90s and Today’ at The CSW Ujazdowski Castle, Warsaw, and ‘It Means It Means! – A Drawn Exhibition by Charles Avery & Tom Morton’ at Pilar Corrias, London, 2013; British Art Show 7: In the Days of the Comet (with Lisa Le Feuvre), 2010/11. For Drawing Room he curated ‘Alejandro Jodorowsky’s Dune’: a film of a book that never was, that included Moebius, H.R Giger and Chris Foss with Matthew Day Jackson, Steve Claydon and Vidya Gastaldon, in 2009. He has worked as curator Hayward Gallery and Cubitt, London.

This event will be followed by the opening of Mick Peter’s solo exhibition Pyramid Selling
