Flat 70

Richard Mark Rawlings

Flat 70 is a black led, non profit arts family based in Elephant Park.  Activities are carried out for the benefit of artists, cultural workers and local residents of Global Ethnic Majority (GEM) heritage, including People of African & Caribbean, Latin American, East & South East Asian, Middle Eastern & North African, Gypsy, Roma & Traveller, and mixed heritage. Our aspiration is to reclaim space in all its senses where it has been taken from GEM communities and facilitate artistic, therapeutic & redistributive exchange between the existing and emerging community.

Culture Club is a 2-year programme looking to facilitate engagement with the arts among Southwark’s GEM residents, particularly those at the intersection of mental illness & affordable housing scarcity. Flat 70 will convene tour groups – facilitated by therapeutically trained POC cultural workers- to exhibitions, workshops, screenings, plays, educational events & more, taking advantage of flat 70 s relationships with a number of amazing arts organisations on our doorstep. We will create an inclusive community space that alleviates symptoms of mental illness, alienation and distress caused by the ongoing displacement of racialised communities in Southwark. Our mission is a local arts ecosystem that works for us all and so our programming focuses on openness, enjoyment & celebration. We’re looking to partner with local community organisations who are interested in making Culture Club as inclusive as possible for residents.

Thanks to all involved:
