Join us for a free workshop at Galleywall Nature Reserve – to draw, observe, sense, smell, touch and feel your way through the garden, and to make printed fabric place mats that will lay the table at the Harvest Dinner*, marking the opening of Listening to the earth at Drawing Room. What might we learn if we listen to the earth with all our senses? This session puts that question to work in Galleywall Nature Reserve, looking for the garden’s portals: windows, tunnels, entrances, doorways, gaps, arches, holes in leaves, the spaces between stems. We’ll make our own frames and viewfinders, zoom in, and see what emerges: noticing the stories, networks and interdependencies of the more-than-human, through drawing and printmaking. The workshop will run from 3:30-5pm on Wednesday 16 September at Galleywall Nature Reserve, 1-11 Galleywall Rd, London SE16 3PB Free, drop-in, all ages welcome! *The Harvest Dinner is a celebratory event that will bring together people who’ve taken part in recent community projects at Drawing Room. Everyone involved in the Looking Through workshop will be invited to join the dinner, so come along to take part and reserve a spot. KNEED Kneed is a collaborative practice formed by artists Ishwari Bhalerao (b. Nagpur) and Leonie Rousham (b. London). Through sound, film, performance, text and textiles, they explore and articulate structural violence, hostile bureaucracy, collective histories and informal economies of care embedded within the ecologies and contexts they find themselves within. Their approach to making is collaborative, informed by walking, conversations, planned and chance encounters; with care workers, educators, artists, migrants and more. By probing at the postures of domination within language and image production, they attempt to complicate power relations ingrained in looking, listening, making and documenting. www.kneed.info
