Event Artist’s Secret Place with Nicola Tyson 2 October 2017 Back Nicola_Tyson_headshot_cropped.jpg Location Gallery Nicola_Tyson_headshot_cropped-3.jpg 3_1-5.jpg 4_1-5.jpg Drawing Room invites Drawing Circle members on a tour by artist Nicola Tyson to her ‘secret place’ in Soho, followed by lunch (optional). Nicola will bring guests on a walk around the Soho of the post-punk clubs of the 1980s, accompanied by former club characters and DJs Princess Julia and Trindy Aurora. In the late 1970s and early 80s, whilst studying at Chelsea College of Art, Nicola Tyson was involved in London’s post punk music scene, taking photographs of the now infamous characters who inhabited the Soho clubs. For a short time, she worked as a journalist for the music press, returning to study painting at Central St Martins in the mid-1980s. During this time, she documented the many characters associated with the famous Bowie Nights at Billy’s Club, Soho, including Boy George, Steve Strange, Princess Julia, club owner and DJ among many others that went on to find fame in the British music and fashion world. Nicola Tyson’s solo exhibition Beyond the Trace is on show at Drawing Room from 28 September until 12 November 2017. The event is part of Drawing Room's exclusive events programme for Drawing Circle members.
