ROCK PAPER SCISSORS Amy Leung 1 January 2020 – 30 November 2021 Back Images Amy Leung devised a series of ROCK PAPER SCISSORS afterschool sessions that explored body and space through mark-making, mapping and walking. A group of local children documented journeys they knew, remembering different places through playful and experimental drawing activities. For example, children made ‘box drawings’ by putting pastels into a cardboard box lined with paper and shaking the box whilst on a walk around the block. When they got back to the Drawing Room, they opened the box to reveal a page of dots, dashes and colours as a document of their route! Amy Leung continued to investigate these themes, using the Family Studio events to play with lines, journeys and locations with children and their parents. Projection was used in the Drawing Room Library to beam maps and marks onto the walls, making a largescale work of the area. Amy Leung works across drawing, sculpture and participation to explore politicised themes of touch, care, joy, hidden histories and personal narratives. She currently investigating alternative pedagogical models through an MA in Art and Design in Education, University College London. I loved Julian’s map construction, and the way he took to drawing in space using the sticks, torches, wire, tape and box as loose parts. Amy Leung, Artist The Family Studio enabled me to create a space where open ended play and child-led activities could happen. Amy Leung, Artist I want to come back, as here are my friends. Child
