Drawing Research Forum 2026: Call for Proposals

Back

Drawing Room invites proposals that examine critical issues around contemporary drawing. We offer postgraduate students and scholars the chance to field test research, and to network and engage with a wider community of academics and specialists. Our Library and Research Centre is a space for knowledge exchange between disciplines, encouraging cross-fertilisation of ideas and methodology, and fostering collaborations between artists and researchers.

We are now inviting proposals of a high quality that reflect a strong research focus. Proposals should include a summary of your research, outline the key questions it raises and how these will be addressed by your project, as well as what will be covered in your 20-minute presentation. Proposals must have an explicit connection to drawing and discuss why the medium of drawing specifically has been utilised in your research.  Substantial research should already have been undertaken with the forum providing an opportunity to present findings to date, rather than to discuss initial research proposals or ideas for future research. Presentations should also demonstrate a strong commitment to looking beyond a researcher’s own artistic practice and connect to wider discourse.  We are also interested in submissions that show a commitment to using accessible language and knowledge dissemination practices aiming to reach diverse audiences made up of those with both non-academic and academic backgrounds.

We encourage submissions and research perspectives that represent the diversity of our society. We are particularly interested to hear from those currently underrepresented in our programme, and in arts academic research more widely, including those from Global Majority backgrounds and people with a disability.

Please include supporting visual material and a bibliography of key texts or existing research to which you are responding. Please state how presenting at the Drawing Research Forum will benefit your project.

Selected papers will be presented at the next Drawing Research Forum in Autumn/Winter 2026/27.

The deadline for submissions is Monday 10th August 2026. Please email your proposal (between 200 – 500 words) and a brief bio about yourself to [email protected].
