  Tannery Arts is a small, independent charity concerned with supporting the professional development of emerging and established artists through the provision of affordable studios, promoting their practice through opportunities to exhibit work, develop projects, generate partnerships with local authorities, private property owners and social housing organisations as well as engage in learning activities.

Drawing Research Forum 2025: Call for Proposals

Learning

We shape projects alongside artists, children, schools, families, teachers, young people, students, adults and local community groups to explore drawing in all its forms. Drawing is used as a means to play, experiment, communicate, collaborate and come together in a process of collective learning.

Library & Research

Our Library & Research Centre is a growing specialist reference library currently includes approximately 4,000 books and 70 journal titles on drawing since the 1970s, and includes rare items not held in other major UK and Irish libraries. The general reference collection includes artists’ monographs featuring drawing, exhibition catalogues, journals, theory, collection catalogues, and surveys on drawing.

We are now at a stage where we are actively exploring new avenues for income generating activities, from sponsorship to hires, making the most of our beautiful new building as a way to support our charitable aims, and we are looking for new team members to help us achieve this.

We are recruiting for a Communications & Admin Coordinator to join our small and dedicated team. This new role will work primarily from Drawing Room’s front desk acting as the main point of contact and public face of the gallery to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of Drawing Room’s public spaces. The principal responsibilities of this role will be communications, visitor services and shop sales, also assisting Drawing Room’s supporter and membership programmes, exhibitions and general administration.

Artist Highlight: Alicia Reyes McNamara

The artist’s mutating and shapeshifting beings in fantastical landscapes are part of a queering of religious rituals and indigenous folklore, informed by her Mexican and Irish ancestry. Realised in popping coloured pastels on small and large scales, her recent works are informed by Catholic devotional imagery, specifically the Ecstasy of Saint Teresa and the Temptation of Saint Anthony. Blurring the boundaries between the sacred and the earthly, these works are exuberant, expansive interpretations of these traditional subjects, part of the artist’s personal exploration of the spiritual and the ecstatic through the intimate medium of drawing.

Artist Highlight: Anna Paterson

The artist explores experimental processes of image-making on paper, incorporating techniques associated with printmaking, domestic cleaning and painting. She works intuitively, smearing tacky, coated paper with oiled rags before scrubbing and abrading the surface, adding punctures, marks and rubbed textures with a variety of tools and objects to create abstract forms. Discoloured and translucent, these works are reminiscent of clouded shed windows, yellowed wallpaper and pitted Tube tunnel walls, together forming a diaristic archive of snapshots that ponder how the elements of our urban environment are layered and degraded by natural processes over time.

Everyone can draw!

We welcome all families to come and have a go at some imaginative and experimental ways of drawing in a studio environment.

Work with artist Lyndon Harrison to explore a fun and fashion forward approach to drawing. We will adorn t-shirts and accessories to create colourful and cutting edge outfits. Who knows, maybe we will even have a runway!

Join us for our next Family Studio event with artist Lyndon Harrison on Sunday 4th May, drop in anytime between 12-4pm.
