A Slice through the World – curators’ and artists’ view

“You can never get beyond that basic building block of how digital images are constructed. Whereas there is a richness and irreducibility to the graphic line which can never be broken down to a smaller component.” – curator Stephanie Straine.

A Slice through the World curators Stephanie Straine and Kate Macfarlane, and artists David Haines, David Musgrave, Kathy Prendergast, Kate Davis, Karl Haendel and Barbara Walker discuss the themes of the exhibition and concepts behind the works.

A Slice through the World is a collaboration between Drawing Room and Modern Art Oxford, celebrating the sustained power of drawing in our digital age. It explores the resilience of drawing as a means of responding to contemporary questions of representation and dialogue.
