Over the past five years, ROCK PAPER SCISSORS has brought together artists, teachers, families and local children to explore what drawing can be. Lead artists enact playful and collaborative forms of drawing as a tool for observation, perception, questioning, mental well-being, self-expression, activism, joy and community building. This exhibition forms a trail of displays around Drawing Room, marking a snapshot in time with artists Rhys Coren, Dunya Kalantery, Anna Paterson, Habiba Nabisubi and Olivia Twist.

The work shown has arisen out of a range of projects in and out of school, through artist-led and child-led experimentation. Children’s knowledge and imagination can be witnessed through animation, portraiture, mark-making, material investigation, doodling, visual story-telling and banner-making. Follow the map to uncover this recent work made by, with and for children who live in our Bermondsey neighbourhood.

ROCK PAPER SCISSORS: A Snapshot will run alongside Drawing Biennial 2024, our exhibition and fundraising auction that helps make our Learning programme possible with your support.
