Hosted by Veronique Parke and Candida Gertler on behalf of Outset the event will celebrate new work by Sarnath Banerjee ‘The Many Half Lives of Vasundhara Rangarajan’ as part of Annotations 3.

Guests will start the evening with an in-conversation between Annotations artist Saranath Banerjee and curator Shanay Jhaveri, followed by a first look at Drawing Room’s newest exhibition Everything we do is music lead by curator Shanay Jhaveri. Indian food and drinks will be served throughout.

Annotations is a series of artist commissions jointly supported by Véronique Parke and Outset for Drawing Room’s Outset Study. Including 6 artists over a 3 year period, each artist undertakes a period of supported residency, researching the library collection to create a work for Outset Study – using the wall, the space, or intervening with the library collection itself.

Everything we do is music  is an exhibition that traces a long history from early Indian miniature painting (Ragamalas) through to drawings, animations and video works from the present day. Including works by pivotal Indian artists such as Nasreen Mohamedi and Lala Rukh the exhibition will feature a number of works previously unseen in the UK. It will present newly commissioned pieces by Michael Müller and Sarnath Banerjee alongside works by contemporary artists such as Prabhavathi Meppayil, Shahzia Sikander and Dayanita Singh. The exhibition will also explore the influence of Indian classical music on important American artists such as Lee Mullican and Marian Zazeela and its wider influence on western popular and counterculture.

Exhibition: 30 November 2017 – 4 March 2018.
