We will be delivering 15 sessions between Spring and Summer term with 18 children from key stage 2. The initial phase of the project will offer children engaging and playful ways to reflect on and share their personal and cultural interests, inviting connection between the two school groups. Through a series of drawing games, techniques, and materials, Jenny will provide a creative toolkit for imaginative exploration. Together, they will develop characters that serve as mascots or avatars for each child’s unique expression, allowing the project to evolve naturally and see where their creativity leads them. With the opportunity of a longer-term project, Jenny aims to truly get to know the children, guiding them in reflecting on their interests while introducing them to various creative tools to help develop their ideas. Her hope is that, by the end, the children will have not only gained new creative skills but also new friendships, leaving with a deep sense that their interests, ideas, and contributions are valued. Jenny Pengilly is a multidisciplinary artist working in learning and social engagement. Her work predominantly focuses on the medium of the art workshop and the use of affective materials and making to facilitate play, experimentation, collaboration, and mutual growth and exchange with children, young people, families, and adults. Jenny is interested in the interactions, sensory experiences, processes, and objects that emerge from these engagements, exploring how they could be creatively expanded and shared. In addition to her artistic practice, Jenny is the co-director of Joy For Stuff, a social art project and sound art duo. She is also the co-founder of Electronic Audio Club, a peer-led community group that explores DIY electronic audio projects based at TACO! Gallery.
