Anna Barriball Touch Year 2024 Medium Pastel on paper Dimensions 27. 2 x 21.4 cm Top pick Selected by Chris Fite Wassilak, writer & critic About the work Different tactile processes of drawing are at the heart of Anna Barriball’s practice. Working across a range of mediums the artist has an ongoing interest in how temporality, memory and the mechanics of sight all interact. To make this drawing the artist placed her left hand’s fingertips and thumb on to a piece of paper and with her right hand applied pastel dust to the sheet. Recently referencing photographic processes in her drawings this piece brings to mind a photogram where an object has been placed on photographic paper and exposed to light. Once taking her left hand off the surface she worked further with the pastel dust to create an image of her hand reaching out towards the viewer.
