Ellie MacGarry Threads Year 2024 Medium Ink and watercolour on paper Dimensions 29.5 x 21.1 cm Nominated by Rana Begum About the work My work depicts transitional moments that consider silent communication or interiority – touching, dressing, dancing; and boundaried spaces, windows and openings. The work I have made for the Drawing Biennial features multiple hands threading shared ribbons through their fingers. I am interested in bows, ribbons and ties as soft and tactile objects which may be used to hold things together, or make one seem presentable. The tactility of this shared gesture belies the flatness of the image.
