About the work

A pair from a series of portraits of women with cropped hair and red ribbons arounds their necks, after the style called ‘à la victime’ — necks bared to accept the decapitating blade of the guillotine and a ribbon at the place of the blade’s impact.
Sharon Kivland is an artist and writer, who considers what is put at stake by art, politics, and psychoanalysis. Her novel Abécédaire was published by Moist Books in July 2022. Her new book, entitled Almanach, is forthcoming in 2024.
