About the work

Holding it together study (Wrought Iron railing, Cannon Street) belongs to a new series of textile works that explore processes of cutting, overlaying and repairing. The work takes wrought iron railings as a starting point- a border between public and private space- documented from both real life and filmic space. When translated to fabric, the material begins to collapse. Layered with organic painted forms and held together by thread and embroidery, the work reflects on the relationship of bodies to architecture, the precarity of where they stand and when they seep through.
This series has run in parallel with my current project at the Coborn Centre, an adolescent mental health Centre in Newham, working alongside young people to explore unseen love through textile and drawing together.
