Mary Herbert River (April) Year 2022 Medium Soft pastel on paper Dimensions 21.3 x 19 cm About the work This drawing was made at the beginning of the body of work for my solo show Soft Logic at Moskowitz Bayse in 2023. It was one of two drawings that were seeds for my first large paintings, and relates to the painting ‘Care’ (2022-23). Drawing is central to my work, but at this time it was serving the vital function of keeping me connected to the place where the work comes from whilst embarking on larger work. The drawings from this period contain the month in their title, as it felt important to acknowledge their connection to the evolution of the paintings.
