About the work

This drawing was part of a body of work made for a recent exhibition at Somers Gallery, London (this work was not shown). Here is some text that accompanied the exhibition.

THE BLACK DOT
‘The blip, the spot, the abyss, the blackout, the shutdown. The miscommunication, the rupture, the pixel, the scar, the floater. It follows around’ *

This drawing was part of a new body of work by Lucy Joyce within which she unapologetically addresses private and collective rupture. Drawings, sculpture and text probe gut responses to turmoil and examine common gestures of despair. Alongside, recent unannounced actions in the public realm are revisited in sketch books and an intermittent performative action.
