About the work

My work is concerned with longing, girlhood and defiance, underpinned by a practice of drawing. My studio is littered with these small charcoal drawings on card, washed with yellow ochre. The way charcoal can go on and off the card so easily allows me to think through drawing, to add and subtract, much like the surface of a monotype plate. They are made from observation from dolls I construct as models, and form the basis of etchings, monotypes and paintings. The titles of my works are pulled from poetry, lyrics, novels and overheard conversations, and reflect the inner landscape of the “sitters”.
This drawing, “Maybe I’m the same as all those men, writing songs of all their dreaming” became an etching of the same name, and was exhibited at London Original Print Fair, and a painting “She is All Traps” which was shown at Marlborough Gallery.
