Lilah Fowler Drawings For Land Use #56 Year 2024 Medium Paper and plastic collage Dimensions 30.3 x 22.7 cm Nominated by Chris Fite Wassilak Top pick Selected by Chris Fite Wassilak, writer & critic About the work Lilah Fowler is British-Japanese artist based in London. Moving between digital, analogue and organic methods, from hand-weaving and ceramics to algal growths and bespoke image-generating software, Fowler’s artwork draws on issues of landscape and infrastructure to create a deeper understanding of the geopolitics of our hyper-landscape. In sculptural-led installations that incorporate textile, clay, found object, film and sound, often influenced by collaborations or conversations with researchers from other disciplines, her work explores the potential for abstraction inherent in any medium, and the possibilities of translation between materials along the spectrum from plastic to pixel. The collage is part of a series drawing on depictions of desert landscapes, as a space that embodies many of the raw conceptions of both untouched nature and hidden technologies – such as solar, wind, and data farms – using colour and pattern to highlight and change its features.
