About the work

The Drawing Room give each artist a sheet of A4 paper with which to make an artwork for the Biennial. I cut this sheet of A4 paper into fragments using a scalpel and then cast the fragments in graphite and plaster to make a semi-relief sculpture that hangs on a wall. The image depicted is taken from a photograph I took of a smashed window. A print of this photograph was then laid over the sheet of A4 paper, cut through along the lines of the fragmented glass to create hundreds of pieces of paper from which I made a cast to then hand colour in ink. The surface of the artwork stands between object and image, part a graphic depiction of smashed glass window and part an abstraction of memory and identity.
