Joydeb Roaja In Search of Indigenous People Year 2024 Medium Ink pen on paper Dimensions 29.9 x 21.2 cm About the work Chittagong Hill Tracts is an area in the south-eastern part of Bangladesh, consisting of three districts, Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachari. This area of Chittagong Division is full of hills and valleys. 11 tribes have been living in Chittagong Hill Tracts since ancient times. I was born in a remote area of Chittagong Hill Tracts. I am now 51 years old; I have seen from my own experience that the number of indigenous in this region is decreasing due to various reasons. At present, the indigenous people of this country are being tortured in various ways by the aggressor Bengalis. The state promises them full cooperation but does the opposite. Their language is disappearing, their culture is disappearing. It is in this context that I have started painting a series of new artworks from this year, this is one of them.
