Headache Caused by Jet Lag

About the work

I have built a practice based upon memories; how they appear and disappear. In my works, energy and fluidity are expressed through rhythmical marks, where the past and the present co-exist. My artworks express the intangible and ethereal character of memory, which acts as a mechanism in viewing the world. While the narratives are related to human emotions and intimate relationships. I choose to create poetic works with multiple interpretation possibilities.

In this work, I depicted myself as suffering from severe jet lag caused by long distance travel from Seoul to the London. I overlapped the image of my face several times to express suffering and a rather unsettled mind caught between the two geographical landmasses across two vastly different times zones. While at the same time trying to figure out my real identity. I also wanted to think about my diaspora-self as a wanderer between the two countries.
