Jagdeep Raina Ayah in the garden Year 2023 Medium Mixed media on paper Dimensions 21 x 29.7 cm Top pick Selected by Roger Malbert, curator & writer About the work Two Indian ayahs sit in the English countryside and take care of British children. This drawing explores the history of the Ayahs – thousands of women from India who traversed the ocean to come to the UK as chattels during the British Empire to take care of young children. My work seeks to identify the residue left behind by the human touch, and its restorative potential.
