About the work

Goodyear often describes her drawings as ‘fragments’ – like glimpses from a half-remembered dream or a distorted memory – frozen in a moment.The deliberate ambiguity that is consistent through Goodyear’s work offers multiple readings and possibilities. The recurrent theme of half-submerged figures can represent the ‘in-between’ state and alludes to the threshold between the conscious and the subconscious. The figure could just be wading through a small pool, assisting their companion, or could be the only remaining dry ground, an ‘island’, in a flooded and submerged world.
