Francis Upritchard 2 Scallop Mermaid Year 2023 Medium Watercolour and silver paint on paper Dimensions 29 x 21.7 cm About the work I have always used watercolours as a drawing tool for planning for sculptures. Later this year I have a show in Charlottenborg, Copenhagen so I have been thinking of The Little Mermaid sculpture which resides there, and made drawings and sculptures thinking about that. This interest in hybrid forms follows from other work I have made around centaurs- also part human, part beast. Scallops are part of the Upritchard family crest, apparently, so they found their way into this drawing too.
