Fani Parali Poster for future performance including Child, Moon, Wind and Mechanical Beast Year 2024 Medium Graphite on paper Dimensions 42 x 59.4 cm Top pick Selected by Gabriella Boyd, artist About the work This drawing is part of an ongoing series of posters for future performances. Drawing is always an important part of the preparatory process whilst planning my performances; there is freedom and scope for ambition within it and as I sometimes have ideas that may be difficult (or impossible) to manifest in real life, these posters can host these ideas and the notion that they are indeed possible. The child here is my son Zephyr and his ‘defiant ride’ is a comment on the complex interdependence between parents and children and the need for the future generations to break from and sometimes rebel against what they have inherited by us. It is also a reminder of our collective responsibility towards all children and the world they live in. The steel moon, steel wind and theatre light tracks are all elements of my bigger-than-me human attempt to build worlds of possibilities.
