About the work

There is a clear duality between destruction and reconstruction expressed in this series, exploring human fragility in the face of natural events, climate crisis, and human conflicts. In all cases, it’s a fragile formation, partially random but rigorous – common elements in Diogo Pimentão’s work – “Existences (specific)” as the title of this piece indicates. It implies a specificity marked by the elevations and piles of recycled cement slabs from previous works from the artist, but above all by the crosses carefully drawn in pencil on the white surfaces. The visual association with war debris adds a complex layer of interpretation, highlighting universal vulnerability and the possibility of reconstruction, even in the most challenging situations…
