Charlotte Edey Envelop Year 2023 Medium Soft pastel on sanded paper Dimensions 30.5 x 22.8 cm About the work ‘Envelop’ is a soft pastel drawing on sanded paper that reflects on the porous architecture of the human body at the threshold of its outer environment. Edey’s work explores selfhood through the disembodying of subjects, examining the shifting historical, spiritual and environmental realms that shape and inform the plurality of identity. Working across drawing, textiles and sculpture, this material exploration expands upon her drawing practice. The language of mark-making is translated through extensive hand-embroidery and beading on tapestry, akin to stippling and hatching, forging direct relationships between line and thread.
