Benjamin Deakin Refrainer Year 2023 Medium Watercolour and pencil on paper Dimensions 25.4 x 20.3 cm About the work Refrainer is a preparatory work for a new set of paintings which lead on from a recent series of interiors looking out at Himalayan mountains-capes. These works continue my enduring interest in landscape and mountains as subjects in art but which increasingly use windows and interior space to explore spatial possibilities in painting with the mountains as a constant presence, akin to the role which iconography plays in many cultures. In Refrainer I am exploring stained glass as an extra visual plane within these compositions.
