About the work

Anne Imhof’s artistic practice is characterized by a profound fascination with the human form, and her works are connected by recurring gestures, symbolisms or postures and movement of the body. Though her work is inherently multifaceted and continues to expand into ever more media, painting and drawing remains a consistent through-line within her oeuvre. The untitled pencil on paper work depicts a kneeling figure with a dolphin draped over its back and shoulders. Animals are a recurring motif throughout Imhof’s work and are linked to her fascination with Greek mythology. They occur as human companions, have symbolic significance and reinforce Imhof’s penchant for eluding singular interpretation. Rather, they conjure multiple associations and indicate other forms of experiences and emotions.
