About the work

I have always loved graffiti and admired ad hoc memorials, wondering about the people who left those marks. Since the death of my son in 2010 my work has been about him and life without him. I want it to be at one a celebration of his life, a memorial and a legacy.

About the artist

Emma Douglas (b. 1956, London) lives and works in London. Studied Fine Art BA at Middlesex Polytechnic (1976-79); Printmaking at Ecole des Arts Decoratifs Paris (1979-80); and MA Printmaking at the Royal College of Art (1980-83). Douglas has exhibited in the Royal Academy Summer exhibition (2016), and was selected for the Jerwood Drawing Prize (2015 and 2013). Select exhibitions include Norwich Cathedral, Norwich (2019); Redchurch Street gallery, London (2012); SPACE Open studios, London (2012); The Whitworth Gallery, Manchester; The Hayward Annual, London; the Whitechapel Open, London; The Serpentine Gallery, London; The Mulhouse Biennale (prize winner), Mulhouse; The Battersea Arts Centre, London; The Barbican Gallery, London; The Ljubljana Biennale, Ljubljana; Serpentine Gallery, London; and the Flowers Gallery, London and New York. Her work is held in private and public collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; and the Royal College of Art, London.
