About the work

‘Less and less possessive about her mind' is how Marion Milner (1900-1998) describes one of the side effects of her journey into the interior. I wanted to marshal the feelings involved in this journey, in this case by using collage, which includes images of: a Helen Levitt photograph, a photo of a 1940’s top with drums; and a pregnant belly and breasts on sun-faded paper.

Born 1979 Dublin, Aleana Egan lives and works in Dublin. Graduated from BA Hons. Painting, The Glasgow School of Art (2003).

“Aleana Egan creates abstract sculptures that are assembled in multi-layered constellations. Materials such as metal, wood, pigment, and fabric refer to their own properties, while also remaining indeterminate. In this ambiguity, the objects evoke immaterial moments—ideas, thoughts, feelings, moods, energies, and relationships both towards each other as well as interpersonal. Manifested in form, the internal is turned outwards. Translated into sculptural gestures, latent allusions are made visible, and the processual shifts into focus” – Melissa Canbaz, 2021

Egan’s works are held in public and public collections including The Irish Museum of Modern Art, The Dallas Museum of Art, Landesmusuem Münster and Frac des Pays de la Loire.
