About the artist

Brian Chalkley (b. 1948) lives and works in London. Chalkley studied at Chelsea College of Art and Design and Slade School of Fine Art and is currently is the Course Director on MA Fine Art programme at Chelsea. Chalkley's practice is an ongoing discussion of gender, sexuality and identity based on two characters: Brian and Dawn, Dawn being his transvestite identity. His practice manifests itself through painting, performance and video work and the construction of narrative and story-telling are central to the work. Exhibitions include Works on Paper, Galerie Gregor Staiger, Zurich (2013); Female Trouble, Ancient and Modern, London (2012); Career Girls, Galerie Horst Schuler, Düsseldorf (2011); Der Menschen Klee, Kunst im Tunnel, Düsseldorf (2011); and  Nothing is Forever, South London Gallery, London (2011). Chalkley is represented by Galerie Horst Schuler, Dusseldorf.
