About the artist

Born 1949 Bangor, Richard Deacon lives and works in London. Graduated from BA St. Martin’s School of Art, and MA Environmental Media from the Royal College of Art, London.

Richard Deacon is a sculptor. His first one-man show was held in Brixton in 1978.   In the 1980s his work gained international recognition and has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the world. He has finished many large-scale public commissions in countries across, most recently, in 2016, Grove, in Tokyo. He was awarded the Turner Prize in 1987, elected to the Royal Academy in 1998 and to the Akademie der Kunste in Berlin in 2010.

His works are held in public and private collections including Arts Council of Great Britain, London; British Council Collection, London; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Contemporary Art Society, London; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco; Walker Art Centre, Minneapolis; Manchester Art Gallery, Manchester; Southampton City Art Gallery, Southampton; University of Warwick, London; and the Tate Collection, London.
