About the artist

Hew Locke (b. 1959, Edinburgh, UK) lives and works in London. Locke earned a B.A. Fine Art at Falmouth in 1988 and an M.A. Sculpture at Royal College of Art in 1994. in 2000, he was the recipient of the Paul Hamlyn Award and an East International Award. Selected Solo Exhibitions and Presentations include: For Those in Peril on the Sea, Pérez Art Museum, Miami (2013-14); EXPO Chicago, Hales Gallery (2014); The Nameless, Hales Gallery, London  (2010-12); The Kingdom of the Blind, Rivington Place, London (2008); and Hew Locke, The New Art Gallery, Walsall (2005). Selected group exhibitoons include: En Mas, Contemporary Art Center New Orleans (2015);  Prospect.3, New Orleans (2014-15); Kochi-Muziris Biennale, India (2014); Sculptural Forms, Manchester Art Gallery (2014); Up Hill Down Hall, Tate Modern, London.(2014); Global Caribbean, Little Haiti Cultural Center, Miami, USA (2011); MIAM, Sète, France & Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Puerto Rico (2010); 2nd Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art, Greece (2009); 2nd San Juan Triennial, Puerto Rico (2009); Guangzhou Triennial, China (2008); and Infinite Island: Contemporary Caribbean Art, Brooklyn Museum, USA  (2007-08). He has work collections at The Government Art Collection, The Perez Art Museum Miami, The Tate Gallery,The Arts Council of England, The Brooklyn Museum, New york , The Victoria & Albert Museum, The British Museum, The Henry Moore Institute, Leeds and many more. Locke is represented by Hales Gallery, London.
