Tannery Arts is a small, independent charity concerned with supporting the professional development of emerging and established artists through the provision of affordable studios, promoting their practice through opportunities to exhibit work, develop projects, generate partnerships with local authorities, private property owners and social housing organisations as well as engage in learning activities.

Now firmly established in the art world calendar Drawing Biennial, exhibition and auction, is an essential destination for collectors, artists, critics and curators who wish to see the latest developments in contemporary drawing practice and pick up a unique work of art that represents outstanding value for money.
Since 2003, over 1000 distinguished and emerging national and international artists have participated. Drawing Room directors invite artists to make an original drawing in any medium on an A4 sheet of paper. This process ensures that Drawing Biennial 2013 comprises unique works of art of exceptional quality. The range of artists demonstrates the crucial role that drawing plays in contemporary art and further endorses Drawing Room as the national and international space for contemporary drawing.
The works are presented in an exhibition at Drawing Room and on an online auction site for 4 weeks, culminating in the auction finale on 15 May 2013. From a starting price of £250, the format of the silent auction means anyone can bid (either on line, on the phone or in person) for an original work of art, whether it is their first ever purchase, or an acquisition for a major collection.
Artists from the UK and abroad now look forward to the Drawing Room fundraiser as a biennial commission and often their donated drawing initiates a new body of work:

Basil Beattie English painter and printmaker. He studied at West Hartlepool College of Art (1950 -55) and at the Royal Academy Schools, London. He taught at Goldsmiths College, London, from the 1960s to the 1990s. Over the last few decades his large and inventive abstracts have increasingly adopted a system of pictographic signs; doorways, stairways, archways, ziggurats, corners and long tunnels. Beattie sees these more as psychological states, rather than an illustrative or figurative association. However these architectural and archetypal forms comprehensively define the interior of the paintings, forming cells of space, depth, light and air. He is represented in many major collections in the United Kingdom, including the Saatchi Collection and the Tate Gallery. A solo exhibition of his paintings was held at Tate Britain from February to May, 2007. Basil Beattie’s drawing follows in line with his current paintings which have the collective title of the Janus Series. Work from the Janus Series was shown at the Two Rooms Gallery in Auckland, New Zealand in 2008. A more comprehensive showing of the series opened in 2009 at the Purdy Hicks Gallery, London.
Bonnie Camplin (b.1970) she received her BA in film and video and her postgraduate degree in advanced photography from Central St. Martin’s School of Art. For eight years she was a para-theatrical producer, director and performer of experimental club nights in Soho London as well as working across the disciplines of drawing, film-making, music and writing. She has showed nationally and internationally and has collaborated with Enrico David, Mark Leckey, Lucy MacKenzie and Paulina Olowska. Recent projects include Soundworks, ICA, London and she is currently artists’ mentor for the LUX Associates Programme.
Bob + Roberta Smith (b.1963) studied at University of Reading; 1981-1985 and Goldsmiths College of Art; 1991-1993. 'Bob and Roberta Smith' is the pseudonym used by conceptual artist Patrick Brill. Patrick is a tate trustee. The artist has become best known for brightly coloured slogans, painted on reclaimed timber or board. Each carries a witty or subversive message, questioning the worlds of art, politics and popular culture. As well as sign painting, he also makes sculptures in cement, performs music with 'The Ken Ardley Playboys', and hosts the radio show 'Make Your Own Damn Music' on Resonance fm. Selected group shows include Tate Britain (London), Hayward Gallery (London), Serpentine Gallery (London), Tate Liverpool, CCAC (San Francisco), National Gallery in Copenhagen (Denmark) and CIMA Gallery (Calcutta). Smith's work can be found in public and private collections including the Tate Collection, UK Arts Council Collection and UK British Council Collection.

Drawing Room is located in Bermondsey, South East London, and is the only public gallery in Europe dedicated to contemporary drawing. Our programme of exhibitions, talks, books and artist in-conversations incorporate a wide range of ideas and media, from the traditional to the experimental, and is informed by contemporary artistic practice.
Drawing Room is an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (NPO). Its programme is supported by Drawing Biennial Fundraiser exhibitions and patron membership and donations.
