Rachel Lowe (b. 1968, Newcastle upon Tyne) lives and works in London. Lowe received her BA in Fine Art from Camberwell College of Arts 1987-1990 and completed her MFA at Chelsea School of Art 1992-1993. Her work often combines traditional media such as drawing and painting, with video, Super 8 film, photography and slide projections. Exploring the physicality of the moving image, the artist describes her work as revolving around our attempts to capture moments in time, and the impossibility of ever doing so. In 2002, Lowe was awarded the Delfina Studio Award, and, in 1999, she was joint winner of the Olay Vision Award for Women Artists. Recent solo exhibitions include Rachel Lowe, narrative projects, London (2015) and Revolving Woman, Eastside Projects, Birmingham (2013). Selected group exhibitions include Revolver: Part 3, Matt’s Gallery, London (2012), Government Art Collection, Whitechapel Art Gallery, London (2012), The Future Demands Your Participation, Shanghai (2010), Independence, South London Gallery, London (2003), Becks Futures, ICA, London (2002), The British Art Show 5, Edinburgh (2000). Lowe’s work features in the British Council Collection, Arts Council Collection and the Tate Collection.
