John Kindness (b. 1951, Belfast, Northern Ireland) attended the Belfast College of Art and now lives and works in Dublin. Recent solo exhibitions include Belfast Frescoes with cross-community project, Ulster Museum Belfast (2009-2010), An English Interior, Foundling Museum, London (2008), Aristotle Contemplating Laundry, Slate Gallery, Williamsburg, New York (2007), English Pictures, Hillsboro Fine Art, Dublin (2007), Retrospective 1986-2006, Switch Room, Belfast (now Golden Thread gallery-2006). Group exhibitions include Peeping Tom, curated by Keith Coventry, and Kunsthal KaDe, Amersfoort, Netherlands (2011) and Vegas Gallery London (2010), ‘Night Canvass’ special showing of an early work at RHA, Dublin (2009), Me v. U. (young curators section), Oriel Davies Gallery, Powys, Wales (2008), Driven Fieldgate Gallery, London (2007), Top 20 ‘39London’ Images from National Gallery's favourite postcards (2007). Commissions and other projects include a permanent art work for a new exhibition centre in Kaohsiung, Taiwan (2015), Gaswork permanent artwork, Docklands, Dublin (2012), The Labour Monument, Elmwood Park, Philadelphia (2010), Herakles & the Birds, SOURCE Arts Centre & Library, Thurles, Ireland (2009), The Loathly Lady animated opera project with writer Wendy Steiner (2005-06). In 2015 the artist was awarded the Kohler Arts Industry Award.
