Drawing Room is pleased to offer Drawing Circle members, and a limited number of Network members, the opportunity to attend a studio visit in Hackney with Donna Huddleston.
Join artist Donna Huddleston in her studio to view works in progress for her forthcoming solo exhibition The Exhausted Student, opening in May 2019 at Drawing Room.
Known primarily for her highly detailed coloured pencil figurative drawings of groups of women and teenage girls, the subject of Huddleston’s work is inspired by her childhood memories of Australia and life as a student of theatre design. Her exhibition will include new large and small-scale drawings in a sculptural installation that examines female archetypes, developing the narrative of each image to explore the psychology of study, altered states, desire and illusion.
This will be Donna Huddleston’s first solo exhibition in a public gallery in the UK and follows on from Witch Dance, her live performance at Drawing Room in 2013.
Donna Huddleston studied Theatre Design at National Institute of Dramatic Art, Sydney, Australia in 1997 and Fine Art at National Art School, Sydney, Australia, 1994. Recent exhibitions include: The Critic as Artist, Reading Museum, Reading International 2017/18; Dreamers Awake, White Cube Gallery, London 2017; Making and Unmaking, curated by Duro Olowu, Camden Arts Centre, London, 2016 and Interstellar, curated by Michael Bracewell, Isabella Bortolozzi Gallery, Berlin, 2015.
