My paintings often depict relationships between figures that seem to oscillate between generous acts and refusal or violence. Are we observing the administering of holistic care or combat? Dance or ritual? Lungs hold on to the outside of their garments, these characters seem to be held in place by the brittle air surrounding them.
Gabriella Boyd (b.1988, Glasgow) lives and works in London. Studied at Glasgow School of Art (2007-2011) and Royal Academy Schools, London (2014-2017). Boyd was shortlisted for the John Moores Painting Prize (2016); and was commissioned by the Folio Society to illustrate a new edition of Sigmund Freud’s The Interpretation of Dreams (2015).
