Ed Atkins (b.1982, Oxford) lives and works in London. Studied MA Fine Art at the Slade School of Art (2009). His works in video, sound, drawing and writing explore digital media’s apparent immateriality in relation to its possibilities for precise representations of the physical and corporeal world. The process of making is tangible in his work, creating awareness in the viewer of the surface of the image and the presence of the apparatuses used to produce it. Atkins was commissioned by Frieze Film and Channel 4 for a solo presentation for Art Now at Tate Britain entitled A Tumour (In English). Awards include Tomorrow Never Knows video commission, Jerwood Projects, London (2012); and one of eight recipients of the Paul Hamlyn Award (2012). Select exhibitions include Corpsing MMK, Frankfurt, DE (2017); Ed Atkins, Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Rivoli, IT (2016); Performance Capture, The Kitchen, New York (2016); Safe Conduct, Statens Museum for Kunst National Gallery of Denmark, DK (2016); 14th Istanbul Biennial, Istanbul, TR (2015); Private Settings: Art after the Internet, Museum of Modern Art Warsaw, PL (2014); The Encyclopedic Palace, Venice Biennal (2013); Memory Marathon, Serpentine Pavillion, London, UK (2012). Atkins is represented by Cabinet Gallery, London and by Isabella Bortolozzi Galerie, Berlin.
