Richard Forster:

Richard Forster (b. 1970, Saltburn-by-the Sea, UK). Studied at Manchester Polytechnic and the University of East London, UK. Of his work, Forster says: 'My primary activity is drawing. I find it a compulsive practice that occupies long hours of study. I have recently set upon sequences of drawings scheduled as a form of calendar. Time and process is a key concern for me. I also have ongoing projects that are grouped under a sense of place. Three separate locations are currently a point of research: my hometown of Saltburn-by-the Sea on the north-east coast of England; Levittown in the USA and the former German Democratic Republic.'  Select solo exhibitions include Levittown, De la Warr Pavilion, Bexhill UK (2016); Modern, Withworth Gallery, Manchester (2015); Richard Forster, Flag Foundation, New York (2012); Fast and Slow Time, Middlesborough Institute of Modern Art (2011). Select group exhibitions include Double Take, The Photographers' Gallery, London (2016); Year After Year, Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Milano, Milan, Italy (2014); Slow Looking, Tate, London (2012); Drawn from Photography, The Drawing Centre, New York (2011).
