Hurvin Anderson (b. 1965, Birmingham, UK) lives and works in London, UK. Studied Art Foundation, Birmingham Polytechnic, UK (1991); BA Hons Fine Art Painting, Wimbledon School Of Art, UK (1994); and MA Painting, Royal College of Art, UK (1998). Anderson is known for exploring his Jamaican heritage through depictions of verdant Caribbean landscapes, tangled into abstractions and figuration, tranquil scenes merging unstable ideas of memory, conjoined histories, and cross-culturalism. His work sheds light on the complexity of growing up in England while desiring to reconnect with familial roots, which he accomplishes through a dedication to the medium of painting itself.
